CRTC Grants New Calgary, Lethbridge FMs

The CRTC grants four new FM licenses for CALGARY, with HARVARD BROADCASTING winning a license for an Alternative station with 45 kw at 92.9 FM, RAWLCO getting a Folk-Acoustic license for 19 kw at 100.3 FM, NEWCAP to launch a AAA format as a Class C1 at 90.3 FM, and CHUM LTD. awarded a Hot AC but denied use of the last available Class C frequency (90.3). A new FM license for the neighboring AIRDRIE-COCHRANE area was awarded to TIESSEN MEDIA for an "eclectic AC" with 3,600 watts at 106.1 FM in AIRDRIE and a separate transmitter with frequency to be determined in COCHRANE.
In addition, the CRTC granted 1182743 ALBERTA LTD. (PAUL LARSEN and NORSCOT HOLDINGS LTD./MARY MCKINNON MILLS) 94.1 FM with 100 kw in LETHBRIDGE, AB, The station will air an Adult Standards/"Modern Nostalgia" format.
Also, GOLDEN WEST BROADCASTING has been granted 99.7 FM with 18 kw in HIGH RIVER-OKOTOKS, AB for a Rock station, and has been granted the right to buy Contemporary Christian FM station CJTS/LETHBRIDGE from SPIRIT BROADCASTING LTD. and upgrade it from 50 watts at 97.1 to 20,000 watts at 98.1, agreeing to maintain the format.
