The FCC has fined STECKLINE COMMUNICATIONS $21,000 for each of Talk KQAM-A and Sports KGSO-A/WICHITA for antenna pattern, power limit, and public file violations. The violations were found after the FCC fielded an anonymous complaint and an agent observed the stations running over their prescribed power, noting that the transmission equipment for KQAM could not be brought into compliance and that issues/programs lists were also missing from the public files. STECKLINE claimed that “[s]omeone with knowledge and a key to our facility had tampered with the transmitter."
The FCC has also proposed a $1,000 fine against NORTHEASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY for public file violations at WZRD/CHICAGO. The student-run station told the FCC on its license renewal form that it believed that the missing issues/programs lists were prepared but not put in the file.
