DENIS O'BRIEN's COMMUNICORP is buying eight stations in the U.K. from GLOBAL RADIO for 35 million pounds ($57 million). GLOBAL is spinning off the stations as a condition for its purchase of GMG RADIO two years ago.
The deal includes the SMOOTH stations in EAST MIDLANDS, NORTH WEST, and NORTH EAST, CAPITAL stations in SCOTLAND and SOUTH WALES, REAL RADIO in NORTH WALES and YORKSHIRE, and REAL XS MANCHESTER. The REAL stations are expected to be rebranded as "HEART." DUBLIN-based COMMUNICORP owns 42 radio stations in 8 countries.
