Grammy-winning artist FREDDY FENDER has been diagnosed with incurable lung cancer, according to the CORPUS CHRISTI CALLER-TIMES. The paper reports that the 69 year old TEXAS singer, whose hits include "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights" and "Before the Next Teardrop Falls," was diagnosed in JUNE and has cancelled all bookings, resting at his CORPUS CHRISTI home.
"I woke up this morning and I’m ahead of the pack — to my surprise," FENDER joked to the paper. "I feel OK. I feel all right, but I’m on chemo, so I get side effects. I’m getting ready for my third treatment for the second time..... I’m one year away from 70 and I’ve had a good run. I really believe I’m OK. In my mind and in my heart, I feel OK. I cannot complain that I haven’t lived long enough, but I’d like to live longer."
