Nebraska Broadcaster John Mitchell Dies At 89

Condolences to family and friends of former NEBRASKA radio station owner JOHN C. MITCHELL, SR., who died on FRIDAY (2/28) at 89 in FLORIDA, according to the NEBRASKA BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION.
MITCHELL started in radio on the air at KGFW-A/KEARNEY, NE while in college, then, after becoming an attorney, bought that station in 1953, adding KRCB-A/COUNCIL BLUFFS, NE and several more in the OMAHA, KEARNEY, NORTH PLATTE, HOLDREDGE, HASTINGS, and FREMONT markets, later selling the MITCHELL BROADCASTING group to WAITT MEDIA, which later became NRG MEDIA. He was named to the NEBRASKA BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION Hall of Fame in 1996.
