PANDORA is aggressively marketing itself to advertisers in many local U.S markets -- and in an interview with NETNEWSCHECK.COM -- Chief Revenue Officer JOHN TRIMBLE says the webcaster plans to expand its current 30 local offices by eight to 10 in 2014.
But that might not be what most ruffles the feathers of terrestrial radio. In the interview, TRIMBLE says, "the way we’ve looked at it, we’re the #1-ranked station in 28 major U.S. markets. We represent about 8% of total [U.S. radio] listening, so we feel like we have a significant footprint in the streaming side of radio, as well as to really compete very aggressively against the broadcast and traditional radio market."
NETNEWSCHECK notes PANDORA, "is using its growing local sales force to increasingly target SMBs, adding to its gains with major national advertisers in automotive, consumer electronics, insurance and other categories."
When asked exactly how many salespeople PANDORA had on the street, TRIBLE wouldn't commit, saying "it’s an area where we don’t talk about actual head count for a lot of different reasons, but we’re going to be very aggressive in staffing not only across the local efforts, but digital, as well as our broadcast radio teams."
