MX2 MEDIA and MID-WEST FAMILY BROADCASTING are launching for radio syndication a weekly hour-long talk show about education, "@the chalkface." The show, which started in 2010 as a blog and podcast, is hosted by EDGEWOOD COLLEGE Dean of the School of Education TIM SLEKAR and college professor-turned-inner city kindergarten teacher SHAUN JOHNSON. MX2 MEDIA is handling syndication duties for the show.
In a press release, SLEKAR and JOHNSON said, "We are educators that know what we're talking about. We are not NPR! Our approach is funny, edgy, passionate, witty and gritty. @the chalkface explores the political and commercial influences behind education policy. We translate education news into layman terms so the everyday person can understand the issues - not loaded with edu-jargon. We strongly promote public schools and their democratic and civic mission. Lastly, we talk about the most important issue facing the future of AMERICA - public education."
MX2 MEDIA founder MICHAEL PARRISH added, "There is not an education-focused show currently on the radio that can make an impact like @the chalkface. Education is a topic that affects everyone, yet is barely discussed outside of certain circles. There is currently a major battle over Common Core going virtually unnoticed inside the American school system. With @the chalkface, we will bring this, along with other issues, out of the dark and into the public spotlight through discussions with some of our country's leading educators, policy makers, and parents across all spectrums of life. What LOVELINE did for sex, @the chalkface will do for education."
MID-WEST FAMILY's RANDY HAWKE said, "The subject matter of this show is too important not to get behind. If you have children in school, work in the school system or pay school taxes, you need to listen to this show and get a better understanding of what is happening to AMERICA's schools."
