The PACIFICA FOUNDATION has fired Executive Director SUMMER REESE in the latest twist of the embattled nonprofit broadcaster's struggles. In a terse statement posted on the foundation's website, the company said, "The PACIFICA National Board met in closed session to discuss personnel matters related to individual employees of the foundation. We thank SUMMER REESE for her service to date and will not continue her employment effective MARCH 14, 2014."
REESE, a former PACIFICA board chair, served as Interim Executive Director since AUGUST 17, 2012, replacing ARLENE ENGLEHARDT, and was given the permanent position last NOVEMBER.
The firing followed arrival at an agreement to pay severance to the employees laid off in AUGUST from PACIFICA's noncommercial Variety WBAI/NEW YORK.
In the announcement of severance, REESE was quoted as saying, "It is with a a great sense of relief that I can announce finally today that all severance obligations have been met and I sincerely thank the current and former employees of WBAI and the SAG-AFTRA bargaining unit for their patience as we worked through this troubling situation."
