Condolences to family and friends of NORTH CAROLINA radio station owner JAMES BRYANT "UNCLE JIMMY" CHILDRESS, who died FRIDAY (3/14) in SYLVA, NC at 89, according to the ASHEVILLE CITIZEN-TIMES.
CHILDRESS began his career at WKBC-A/NORTH WILKESBORO, NC and built and owned stations in the region, including hometown WRGC-A/SYLVA, NC. He and his family were significant benefactors to WESTERN CAROLINA UNIVERSITY, and he was named to the NORTH CAROLINA BROADCASTERS Hall of Fame and the WCU Hall of Fame.
