The continuing drama of PACIFICA RADIO's troubles is the subject of an extensive analysis in LA WEEKLY, which posted HILLEL ARON's article detailing the latest travails at noncommercial KPFK/LOS ANGELES in the wake of SUMMER REESE's firing as PACIFICA Exec. Dir. and subsequent return and occupation of the company's national office in defiance of the appointment of MARGY WILKINSON as Interim Exec. Dir.
The article chronicles REESE's defiance of the PACIFICA board ("I'm not leaving the building until this is resolved by either the Attorney General's Office or the court," she told the paper. "I don't want these people to destroy PACIFICA") and goes on to look at the unusual accommodation between warring management factions (the "Radio HAVANA crowd" and the "conspiracy and quackery crowd," according to one employee) that resulted in the board elected with a majority being replaced by their opponents, the controversy over health show host GARY NULL's prominence in pledge drives, the generous deal given AMY GOODMAN that left her with ownership of "DEMOCRACY NOW," the stations' extremely low ratings, and the prospect of the company selling some or all of their stations.
