DAVE BROCKIE, better known by his stage name ODERUS URUNGUS, the leader of satirical metal band GWAR, was found dead at his home in RICHMOND, VA SUNDAY afternoon (3/23), the RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH is reporting. BROCKIE was 50.
BROCKIE founded GWAR in 1984; the band was known for its outlandish costumes (BROCKIE, like all band members, performed with huge masks obscuring their faces), outrageous topics and lyrics, and elaborate shows. GWAR released 13 studio albums, most recently 2013's BATTLE MAXIMUS. The band was twice nominated for Grammy Awards in 1993 and 1995. BROCKIE, in character, was a regular commentator on FOX NEWS CHANNEL's "RED EYE."
