Personalized radio service RADITAZ, which tried to compete with PANDORA by building stations for specific city neighborhoods but abruptly went offline in NOVEMBER, has relaunched as CÜR MEDIA after raising $9.6 million through a reverse merger. GIGAOM reports that CÜR wants to use the new cash to build the next version of its service, which will be called CÜR MUSIC and is scheduled to launch this coming fall.
“We are working on something that is different from anything else out there,” CÜR MEDIA CEO TOM BROPHY said, adding that CÜR MUSIC will be part of a bigger movement, catering to consumers that value the convenience of access to music more than ownership of same. “The world is moving towards access versus ownership,” he said. “For us, to continue to be involved (in this space), we have to do something disruptive.”
