SIRIUSXM OUTQ has added a sports show focusing on LGBT athletes.
"THE OUTFIELD," hosted by EDDIE ROBINSON, will launch this weekend with a talk about UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS guard DERRICK GORDON, who announced WEDNESDAY that he is gay, becoming the first openly gay Men's Division I NCAA basketball player, and guests will include former basketball star SHERYL SWOOPES, MMA fighter DAKOTA COCHRANE, PR specialist HOWARD BRAGMAN, OUTSPORTS.COM's CYD ZIEGLER, and ATHLETE ALLY founder HUDSON TAYLOR. The show will air SUNDAYS at 11a (ET).
ROBINSON said, "We've reached a time where we need to tell stories of gay athletes beyond homophobia in the locker room. This program will proudly carry the torch of reporting positive stories of inclusion and advancement for gay athletes in sports on recreational, collegiate, and professional levels."
VP/GM, Talk Programming DAVE GORAB said, "EDDIE came to us with a passion to make a difference with this program. SIRIUS XM OUTQ is uniquely positioned and the obvious place to launch a program dedicated to a topic that continues to capture national headlines and generate vigorous debate. THE OUTFIELD promises to have a resounding impact and be the first of its kind sounding board for athletes struggling with 'coming out' and issues of acceptance."
