AUSTIN is about to get a new radio station, reports THE AUSTIN CHRONICLE. The station will call itself "FRINGE," and it already has a presence on FACEBOOK. The new station will share workspace with sister station REO RADIO GROUP Country KOKE/AUSTIN.
"What does FRINGE mean?" PD RAY SEGGERN explained to the CHRONICLE. "It means we're off the beaten path. It says that, relative to the competition, we're slightly off-center."
SEGGERN is a longtime AUSTIN radio fixture, with a recent stop at EMMIS Alternative KROX (101X), hosting a SUNDAY morning specialty show called, "CHILLVILLE" from 9a-noon as RAYDOG.
SEGGERN also told the paper that KOKE "honchos BOB COLE and JASON NASSOUR are the primary owners of FRINGE. The new signal goes live in a matter of weeks and tunes in a morning show and afternoon deejays playing free-form radio."
The exact frequency hasn't been made public, but is expected to be an HD channel.
