An article in FRIDAY’s (4/11) WALL STREET JOURNAL featured SIRIUSXM’s “The Highway” channel, crediting its exposure of new music by COLE SWINDELL and FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE, among others, as a lightning rod for both artists’ eventual mainstream success.
Before SWINDELL and FGL found label homes at WARNER MUSIC NASHVILLE and REPUBLIC NASHVILLE, respectively, their music was played on “The Highway,” spurring digital single sales well into six figures.
“"[The Highway] has become an important breeding ground," BIG MACHINE LABEL GROUP Pres./CEO SCOTT BORCHETTA is quoted as saying.
While the audience for “The Highway” is dwarfed by major-market FM Country stations, The WSJ piece asserts “’The Highway’ wields disproportionate influence on sales of records and concert tickets, say label executives, particularly for new and emerging artists from outside the major-label system, a group terrestrial Country stations tend to avoid.”
