The FCC has shut down the broadcast signal of unlicensed Urban FM station TOUCH 106.1/BOSTON and two other pirates in the ROXBURY and DORCHESTER neighborhoods, reports the BOSTON GLOBE. TOUCH 106.1, founded by former BOSTON mayoral candidate CHARLES CLEMONS, was dismantled by U.S. marshals THURSDAY (3/17).
CLEMONS, who hosted the morning show on the station, told the GLOBE that he would reopen the station, saying, "We will not be silenced... How can you with a conscious mind shut down... a positive radio station like this? There is no other radio station like this in the city of BOSTON.”
TOUCH 106.1 had operated since late 2005 and had previously been fined $17,000 by the FCC, and had not paid the fine.
