Arthur Cohen To Retire As PRPD President

PUBLIC RADIO PROGRAM DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION Pres. ARTHUR COHEN has announced that he will retire at the end of his current term, which concludes on JANUARY 1st.

COHEN will have served eight years in the position, and previously served as a consultant to the organization in 2004-06 and on the board in 1989-99.  He headed his own consulting firm, WHOLE STUDIO SOLUTIONS, and worked as VP/Programming and Operations at WNYC-A-F/NEW YORK; VP/GM of Radio at WETA-F/WASHINGTON; Sr. Dir./Programming at MINNESOTA PUBLIC RADIO; and President of the RADIO RESEARCH CONSORTIUM before that.

PRPD Board Chair and MICHIGAN RADIO PD TAMAR CHARNEY said, "ARTHUR has been instrumental over the past decade in leading our association through a shifting landscape in how music and news are consumed and how we reach new generations with public radio content.  The board is deeply grateful for ARTHUR’s innumerable contributions and also know that we are in good hands as he leads us through the transition process to find a successor that can continue our work in shaping the next chapters of the future of the PUBLIC RADIO PROGRAM DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION.”

COHEN said, “The difficult decision to move on to the next phase of my life was made much easier by the quality of PRPD’s incredibly smart dedicated board. I feel honored for this time shepherding the organization and contributing to the navigation of public radio service through the dynamic changes media continues to face. We are uniquely positioned to play an important role in the evolution of content and how people access it, while maintaining the core values that have led to the growing importance of public radio to the American public.”
