Record promo vet PAUL BARRETTE tells ALL ACCESS, "After nearly 28 years in promotion, I have made the decision to retire from the music business effective MAY 1st. I did not come to this decision easily; it has been something I have been thinking about for quite some time. The time just feels right. I have had a career that most people can only dream of."
BARRETTE adds, "I would first like to thank my family -- my wife GAIL and my sons TIM and TYLER for all of the love and support and understanding for the countless hours I was away from home. I love you guys. I would also like to thank BOB CATANIA for my first job at a label (ISLAND) back in 1989. To RICHARD PALMESE, STEVE MEYER, BRUCE TENNENBAUM, MARK GORLICK and SKIP BISHOP at MCA. RICHARD PALMESE (again) STEVE BARTELS and the legendary CLIVE DAVIS at ARISTA. And last but not least, GREG THOMPSON -- first at IDJ, and again at CAPITOL, along with DENNIS REESE. I have nothing but the utmost respect for all of you, and can't thank you enough. We sure broke lots of hits!"
"However none of the above would have happened had it not been for a man who took a chance on me from radio in 1977. He taught me about promotion, but it was much more than that. He taught me two of the most important lessons that I took with me throughout my career," summed up BARRETTE. "That is to treat people right, and that your word is the most important tool that you have. That man is the late JERRY BRENNER, who left us way too early this past FEBRUARY. I really owe my entire career to him. Thank you JERRY for your love and support. Last but not least, I want to thank my many friends in radio, both past and present. Thanks for all your love, friendship, and making me look good. It has been a fantastic ride, one I wouldn't have traded for the world. My immediate plans include working on the event entitled 'Remembering JERRY BRENNER ... A Celebration,' scheduled in BOSTON on JULY 25th, celebrating his life and legacy. I have also began working with friends CARL STRUBE and PETE FALCONI, who own a radio station in SANFORD, MAINE, called 'The Legends' as an account executive. Returning to my roots in radio. I plan to stay in touch via FACEBOOK or my e-mail: muzic_51@yahoo.com. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Much Love, PAUL."
