As ALL ACCESS reported late last night (NET NEWS 5/1), the first-ever iHEARTRADIO MUSIC AWARDS show was held at the SHRINE AUDITORIUM in LOS ANGELES THURSDAY night, giving honors to some of music's biggest stars selected from finalists picked through over 13.2 million hashtag votes on FACEBOOK and TWITTER. The event aired live on NBC (and on tape delay in the PACIFIC zone).
RIHANNA won 4 awards, thanking radio during one speech. She also said, "This award is for the fans, as they said. It’s not easy, what we do. It’s very difficult at times. It’s a lot of pressure to be a lot of things, and I’ve never felt comfortable being anything other than myself, and I just thank my fans for being supportive, and embracing that, embracing that freedom and that liberation, and we’re a family. We stick together. I love you guys.”
BILLY RAY CYRUS accepted MILEY CYRUS‘ award for "Best Lyrics" for her song “Wrecking Ball!” Dad stepped in because MILEY is recovering from a severe allergic reaction to antibiotics which forced her to put her Bangerz tour on hold. BILLY RAY said, “I can’t begin to tell you how much your thoughts, your love, and your support for my family and MILEY mean to all of us. Thank you, and God bless each and every one of you.”
We got to experience MICHAEL JACKSON's “Love Never Felt So Good," which he wrote in 1983. JOHNNY MATHIS released a version of the song in 1984, but the iHEARTRADIO MUSIC AWARDS was the first time that the song would be performed in its remastered version.
Performers at the show included PHARRELL WILLIAMS, BLAKE SHELTON, KENDRICK LAMAR, PITBULL, SHAKIRA, THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS, ARIANA GRANDE, LUKE BRYAN, ARCADE FIRE, and ED SHEERAN, and the MICHAEL JACKSON song "Love Never Felt So Good" made its debut with USHER on stage and an introduction by L.A. REID.
