After three days of deliberation, a NORTHERN CALIFORNIA federal-court jury found some SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO. phones infringe on two APPLE patents, but do not infringe on two others, THE WALL STREET JOURNAL reports. APPLE has been seeking $2.2 billion in damages for SAMSUNG allegeding that it infringed on five of its software patents; SAMSUNG countersued APPLE for copying two of its patents and is seeking $7 million -- a figure APPLE claims was "artificially low-balled ... to devalue patents."
The is the second legal victory for APPLE -- both of which were argued before U.S. District Judge LUCY KOH. In 2012, SAMSUNG was found to have infringed on six APPLE hardware patents; it is appealing the verdict and the $930 million in damages awarded to APPLE.
