A judge has declared a mistrial in the case of current SALEM COMMUNICATIONS Christian Contemporary KLTY/DALLAS afternooner TONY LOPEZ (real name ANTHONY SALVATORI), who has been accused of raping a 14-year-old girl while working at another station.
THE DALLAS NEWS reports, "SALVATORI, 45, faced between two and 20 years in prison on charges of sexual assault and indecency with a child. Both sides agreed to a mistrial after the jury could not agree on a verdict despite more than four hours of deliberation over the course of two days. Evidence from the two-day trial showed that SALVATORI was working at KHKS (106.1 KISS-FM) in 1999 when a girl called the radio station trying to win ’N SYNC concert tickets. When she didn’t win, SALVATORI invited her to come to the station. They later went to his apartment, where he raped her, she testified."
SALVATORI's attorney, FRANK JACKSON, said "jurors told him they were split, with nine believing SALVATORI was not guilty of the sexual assault charge, and seven who believed he was not guilty of indecency with a child."
