APRIL 17th, 2013 is a day that will be forever etched on the hearts and minds of the students of WEST HIGH SCHOOL. The horrific explosion that evening at the WEST FERTILIZER COMPANY rocked the town, destroyed the high school, and forced the seniors to finish their year in portable classrooms. This unexpected tragedy dramatically impacted the area families, and caused the students to adjust their focus, goals and expectations.
YESTERDAY (5/5), CHRISWELL COLLEGE-FBC Contemporary Christian KCBI (90.9 FM)/DALLAS listeners hit a $65,000 goal for the LOVING WEST CLASS OF 2014 gift campaign. This provided all 65 participating seniors $1,000 each to use as needed for a college laptop, new wardrobe for work, fresh tires for their cummute vehicle, etc. 100% all donations will go to the students of WEST HIGH SCHOOL.
Former OAKLAND RAIDERS receiver TIM BROWN will headline a celebration for the seniors and their families at FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH of WEST, on MONDAY, JUNE 2nd. JOSH HAVENS and MATT FUQUA of THE AFTERS, who both have roots in NORTH TEXAS, will perform. The KCBI Morning Show Team of JEFF & REBECCA will also be on hand.
KCBI partnered with the WEST INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT and FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH of WEST, showing these students that in spite of the challenges they’ve faced, people from all across NORTH TEXAS still care about them and want them to succeed.
“I want to become a pharmacist and help those who can’t help themselves,” said LAUREN, one of the WEST seniors who benefited from LOVING WEST. “With this donation, I’ll be able to pay for books and supplies as I begin eight years of study. I don’t even know if words could express how thankful I am.
