GEORGIA STATE UNIVERSITY noncommercial student station WRAS (ALBUM 88)/ATLANTA is turning over its daytime hours to GEORGIA PUBLIC BROADCASTING in what the school and GPB are calling a "programming partnership." GPB will program 5a-7p (ET) on the station with a News-Talk format including both local shows and material from NPR, PRI, and AMERICAN PUBLIC MEDIA starting in JUNE, while the current music format of ALBUM 88 will stream online during those hours and resume on the broadcast signal for 7p-5a. During GPB's programming hours, the school will receive PSA time, and GPB will also provide access for student productions and other GSU content on one of its digital multicast television channels 6p-6a daily.
GSU Pres. Dr. MARK P. BECKER said, "This new partnership is a proverbial win-win and opens the door for future collaboration, Our students will have new and exciting opportunities in the changing media landscape, and this partnership allows both GPB and GEORGIA STATE to better serve the metro ATLANTA region as well as the state."
GPB Pres./CEO TEYA RYAN added, "The programming partnership between GPB and GEORGIA STATE will give us the opportunity to provide the highly desired all-news and information public radio schedule not previously available to Atlantans during the most important radio hours ... At our core, GPB is an educational institution. This partnership will provide statewide recognition for the university, and provide enormously exciting opportunities for GEORGIA STATE students. We look forward to working with professors and students in creating both radio and television programming. In addition to our radio presence, our network of nine television stations and vast digital offerings will provide students with the chance to learn about the growing emphasis on multi-platform journalism and collaborate with our award-winning reporters and producers."
