CLEAR CHANNEL COMMUNITIES, along with WGY and WRVE (THE RIVER)/ALBANY raised more than $648,000 for the CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL AT ALBANY MEDICAL CENTER during the 16th annual CARES FOR KIDS RADIOTHON. The 30-hour live broadcast took place MAY 1st-2nd and encouraged the local ALBANY community to support ALBANY MEDICAL CENTER’s pediatric health care programs.
Throughout the radiothon, on-air personalities CHUCK & KELLY and KEVIN & SHANNA broadcasted live from ALBANY MEDICAL CENTER alongside its pediatric patients and their families. Children who were treated at the hospital told inspirational stories on-air about the care they received and encouraged listeners to donate and support the CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL’s lifesaving work.
“In APRIL, THE RIVER showcased an online video entitled ‘Brave’ on our station websites featuring the courageous patients and dedicated staff from the CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL AT ALBANY MEDICAL CENTER,” WRVE PD RANDY MCCARTEN said. “During the CARES FOR KIDS RADIOTHON, we again shared their amazing stories of treatment, and our listeners responded in a big way to support the CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL.”
“It takes a dedicated team of hospital and radio station volunteers to make the CARES FOR KIDS RADIOTHON a success, but the true heroes are the children and families being helped by these efforts,” WGY PD JOSH EVERETT said. “Their courage and willingness to share difficult and painful experiences -- along with their victories -- is truly what compels others to give so generously.”
