HGTV has pulled an offer to twin brothers DAVID and JASON BENHAM to host a show after tape of DAVID BENHAM making anti-gay remarks on SALEM RADIO NETWORK's JANET MEFFERD show surfaced at the RIGHT WING WATCH website.
The BENHAMS were slated to host a new show, "FLIP IT FORWARD," on which they were to help families fix up a run-down house into a "dream home," but the website, part of the liberal activist group PEOPLE FOR THE AMERICAN WAY, posted that the BENHAMS are the sons of anti-abortion leader FLIP BENHAM and that DAVID BENHAM led a prayer rally protesting the 2012 DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION in CHARLOTTE and told MEFFERD at the event that the rally was needed to stop "homosexuality and its agenda that is attacking the nation” and “demonic ideologies tak[ing] our universities and our public school systems” and spoke of his support for an anti-gay-marriage constitutional amendment in NORTH CAROLINA.
On THURSDAY afternoon, DEADLINE reported that the brothers are continuing to tape six episodes of the show despite HGTV's rejection, and issued a statement saying, "anyone who suggests that we hate homosexuals or people of other faiths is either misinformed or lying ... Over the last decade, we’ve sold thousands of homes with the guiding principle of producing value and breathing life into each family that has crossed our path, and we do not, nor will we ever discriminate against people who do not share our views.”
