Data containing personal information from listeners and staff at ENTERCOM/PORTLAND, OR was stolen from a car in late FEBRUARY, reports KOIN-TV6, which broadcast, "as many as 13,000 people are affected."
The data was from locl stations Sports KFXX-A, Classic Rock KGON, Alternative KNRK, KNRK-HD, Hot AC KRSK, Country KWJJ, Adult Hits KYCH and Sports KMTT-A.
The company said in a statement that, "data cartridges with a backup of file server data were inside a backpack that was stolen from an employee’s car. The cartridges, they said, require special hardware and software to read. An internal investigation found that some of the files had personal information, including Social Security numbers, payment card information and bank account information, from station contestants, clients, vendors and staff."
KOIN-TV6 said 12,500 people had been sent notices about the data breach, but ENTERCOM had not been able to reach about 500 people.
ENTERCOM Dir./Strategic Communications KEVIN GEARY said, “This incident was not a system-wide cyber-attack and it was not a breach of our GetMyPerks Ecommerce platform. It does not appear that the backup cartridges were the target of the theft. To the contrary, we believe that the backpack was the target."
