MURRAY SAUL, the WMMS/CLEVELAND personality who became popular in the 1970s for his FRIDAY afternoon "Get Down" rants, passed away SUNDAY at 86, according to a post on former WMMS PD JOHN GORMAN's FACENOOK page, reported by the CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER.
GORMAN posted, "It is with great sadness I must inform you that our dear close friend and colleague MURRAY SAUL passed away this evening." SAUL had celebrated his 86th birthday last TUESDAY, posting on his own FACEBOOK page, "Turning 86, quite a journey, Toto."
SAUL's FRIDAY segment, in which he commented on annoyances minor and major, building to a crescendo and the shout "gotta... gotta... gotta get DOWN!," arose when GORMAN heard SAUL, a sales account executive for "THE BUZZARD," tell a dancing co-worker to "get down"; the feature was a signature of the station's peak years as one of the nation's most prominent Rock stations.
