Rumors become reality as CBS RADIO Top 40 WNOW (92.3 NOW)/NEW YORK launched a new brand and programming focus -- and rebranded as 92.3 AMP RADIO. The last song of the NOW era was EMINEM's "Lose Yourself." The new brand was christened with CALVIN HARRIS' "Summer" and IGGY AZALEA's "Fancy."
Other artists to be featured on 92.3 AMP RADIO include PHARRELL WILLIAMS, ARIANA GRANDE, JHENE AIKO and TIESTO, to name a few. AMP Radio will utilize SHAZAM, digital downloads and "the largest network of clubs in the country" to help create its playlist.
The station will initially be presented with no jocks; much of the on-air staff exited YESTERDAY (NET NEWS 5/21). The station touted commercial-free weekends all summer. They're also giving away $1,000 every nine minutes to the 92nd caller. The new website is www.923ampradiony.com.
“We are excited to introduce a dynamic radio station with an aggressive approach to highlighting today’s hottest names in music while also exposing audiences to those artists just emerging on the scene,” said PD RICK THOMAS. “As the number of music platforms continues to grow, study after study shows that consumers still look to radio as their leading source for hearing new music. AMP RADIO will be that perfect combination of songs from established and up-and-coming voices that mirrors the tastes of its local listeners.”
