THE NEW YORK TIMES' report that DISNEY Chairman/CEO BOB IGER is on a short list being considered to replace BUD SELIG as Commissioner of MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL is drawing some skeptical analysis from other quarters.
Former MLB Commissioner FAY VINCENT told BLOOMBERG that he would be surprised if baseball brought in "an outsider," comparing the move to how the NBA chose an insider, ADAM SILVER, to replace DAVID STERN as Commissioner. NYU Professor WAYNE MCDONNELL added in speaking with BLOOMBERG that he doesn't think MLB's selection committee "has a clear vision yet of what they’re looking for." A significant stumbling block is that IGER presently has a deal to remain with DISNEY through JUNE 2016, although he will step down as CEO in 2015 and become Exec. Chairman.
Other names in consideration reportedly include DETROIT TIGERS Pres./CEO DAVE DOMBROWSKI, ATLANTA BRAVES CEO TERRY MCGUIRK, MLB COO ROB MANFRED and SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS Pres. LARRY BAER.
