Legendary Southern rock band THE ALLMAN BROTHERS are calling it quits after a 45-year career, the NY TIMES reports. They will play their final shows this OCTOBER at NEW YORK’s BEACON THEATRE.
Last JANUARY, guitarists DEREK TRUCKS and WARREN HAYNES announced that they would not tour with the group after this year. “We want to go out with a bang rather than limping across the finish line,” TRUCKS said. The group has been through the ringer, personnel-wise, since starting in 1969, dealing with the deaths of two original members, various break-ups and reformations. However, after singer/keyboardist GREGG ALLMAN's reported bronchitis canceled several shows that were to launch a long, major farewell tour, the band rescheduled the cancellations as the final performances.
