ALAN JACKSON will mark a quarter-century in Country music's spotlight with a 25th Anniversary tour, plans for new music and two special projects at the COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM. During TODAY’s (6/5) press conference at the HALL OF FAME’s FORD THEATER, JACKSON’s career was celebrated with a nearly 15-minute video chronicling his enormous success.
Among the accolades included were JACKSON’s 35 career #1 songs, 16 COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION (CMA) awards including three ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR nods, 18 ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC (ACM) trophies and 60 million albums sold.
Former WSIX/NASHVILLE personality GERRY HOUSE emceed the hour-long announcement and was joined by UMG NASHVILLE Pres. MIKE DUNGAN, CAA’s JOHN HUIE and KYLE YOUNG from the HALL OF FAME.
DUNGAN credited JACKSON’s first hit single, “Here In The Real World,” with motivating him to segue from Pop music to Country and reminded the audience of JACKSON’s songwriting talents, noting that 24 of his 35 #1s were written or co-written by JACKSON. "That puts him in the same company as [JOHN] LENNON and [PAUL] MCCARTNEY," said DUNGAN.
While announcing plans for a soon-to-be launched 25th Anniversary Tour, HUIE lauded JACKSON as a man of principle, calling him “A true icon,” adding, “Though he was an important part of Country music’s famed ‘Class of ’89,’ ALAN is in a class of his own.”
YOUNG announced plans for a special exhibition of JACKSON’s memorabilia appearing at the museum beginning FRIDAY, AUGUST 2nd and continuing through SPRING of 2015, adding that JACKSON is set to become the museum’s 12th artist in residence, with two OCTOBER shows planned at the CMA THEATER, in the museum’s newly expanded wing.
Typically humble and soft-spoken, JACKSON said he was grateful for the enormity and longevity of his career, expressing embarrassment when representatives of the Hall came to his house to collect some of his numerous industry awards for display.
