The BEASTIE BOYS has won a $1.7 million judgment against the MONSTER BEVERAGE CORP. over copyright infringement, the N.Y. TIMES reports. The trio filed suit against the energy-drink maker in federal district court in New York over an online promotional video for an annual snowboarding competition organized by MONSTER. The “Ruckus in the Rockies” video included remixes of BEASTIE BOYS songs, “Sabotage” and “So What’cha Want.”
The band, which asked for $2.5 million in damages, testified that it had not given permission for the use of the songs. MONSTER called the infringement accidental and pledged to appeal the ruling.
