Ralph Wimmer Calls It A Career

RADIO WORKS, INC.'S RALPH WIMMER is hanging up the headphones. The radio vet exited WKHX and WYAY/ATLANTA in 2009, where he was doing swing work while also doing voice work.

Said WIMMER, "After over 40 years working in and around radio, I have decided the time has come for me to retire.  My career really got started when I worked my way through JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY on WHBG/HARRISONBURG, VA.  In JANUARY 1975, three weeks after I graduated, BOB MCNEIL and the late PHIL GOLDMAN hired me for nights at WRVQ.  I eventually became PD. 

"From there my programming and on-air career took me to WGH and WQRK/NORFOLK, VA, WDOQ/DAYTONA BEACH, WMAR/ BALTIMORE, WMMC/COLUMBIA, WHTK/HILTON HEAD ISLAND, WZAT/SAVANNAH, WZBQ/TUSCALOOSA and finally to ATLANTA where I did swing for WKHX and WYAY while working nine years doing independent record promotion with PRIME HITS.  I was very lucky to also be the voice of WILD WING CAFE's, a Southeastern chain of bar/restaurants for 24 years. 

"In my 40 years I worked with some greats in our business, GEORGE WILLIAMS, MIKE JOSEPH, KENT BURKHART and the late RICK SKLAR.  I also was very fortunate to have coached some amazing talent at my various stops along the way.  I plan on focusing on a few specialized projects including but not limited to some volunteer work and trying to lower my golf handicap.  DAVIS LOVE II once said 'Life is a journey, enjoy the ride.'  I've had a great radio journey, it's time now for me to enjoy the ride."
