WAMU, WTOP, WBAL, WDEL Among 2014 Chesapeake AP Awards Winners

The CHESAPEAKE ASSOCIATED PRESS BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION handed out its annual awards on SATURDAY (6/7) at its convention in OCEAN CITY, MD, and AMERICAN UNIVERSITY noncommercial News-Talk WAMU/WASHINGTON's "Deals for Developers," reported by PATRICK MADDEN and JULIE PATEL, and CBS affiliate WUSA-TV/WASHINGTON, for JEFFREY CRIDLAND, SAMARA MARTIN EWING, and GREG GUISE's story on "USO's Turkeys for Troops."
PATRICK MADDEN and JULIE PATEL won for WAMU's coverage of "Deals For Developers," took the top Crystal Mic best-in-show prizes for 2014.
Among other winners in various divisions, HUBBARD News WTOP/WASHINGTON won eight awards, including Outstanding Talk Show ("ASK THE GOVERNOR"), Outstanding Coverage of a Continuing Story, Outstanding Use of Sound, Best Reporter (MEGAN CLOHERTY), Outstanding Year-Round Local Sports Coverage, Outstanding Editorial or Commentary, Outstanding Sports Feature, and Multimedia/Online Journalism; HEARST News-Talk WBAL-A/WASHINGTON won four, including Outstanding News Series, Outstanding Use of Sound, Outstanding Sports Feature, and Outstanding Feature or Human Interest Story; ALOHA STATION TRUST News-Talk WFMD-A/FREDERICK won six, for Outstanding News Operation of the Year, Outstanding Year-Round Local Sports Coverage, Outstanding Website, Outstanding Spot News Reporting, Outstanding Newscast, and Outstanding Coverage of a Continuing Story; and WAMU also won Outstanding News Operation of the Year, as did DELMARVA News-Talk WDEL-A/WILMINGTON.
