NPR has named COOLEY, LLP Technology Transactions practice group partner JONATHAN HART as Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel, effective JULY 1st. HART, who joined COOLEY with its recent acquisition of his former firm DOW LOHNES, has served as outside General Counsel to companies like COX INTERACTIVE MEDIA and NEW CENTURY NETWORK.
NPR Acting President/CEO PAUL HAAGA said, "JONATHAN HART has the rare combination of legal and leadership skills and experience that this challenging role demands. Over his three decades in law, he has specialized in representing a wide variety of media and technology clients — from websites, mobile applications and digital publishers, to radio and television stations — on a broad range of matters. He has practiced extensively in newsroom counseling and litigation, intellectual property law and complex IP licensing. In addition, he brings with him expertise in privacy law and governance of nonprofit organizations."
HART added, "A well-informed citizenry is the backbone of our democracy and NPR is essential in supporting informed dialogue in our nation. Nobody does it better. It is an honor to be part of this organization, to work in support of its remarkable staff and programming and to support the NPR mission."
