SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY noncommercial Jazz-News-Talk WAER/SYRACUSE will cut back on Jazz programming in a schedule revamp effective JUNE 30th. Jazz host ERIC COHEN's show will move from noon-4p to 8-11p (ET) weeknights, leaving 6a-8p for news and information programming.
Among the additions to the schedule are PRI's THE TAKEAWAY, NPR's ON POINT and HERE AND NOW and PRI's THE WORLD. On weekends, NPR's WAIT WAIT, DON'T TELL ME joins the schedule, as do ASK ME ANOTHER, SNAP JUDGEMENT, and BULLSEYE WITH JESSE THORN.
In a release, the station told listeners, "Over the past year, we have researched the listening needs and preferences of our audience. The results have indicated a desire for more news and information programming on WAER. The research also highlights the challenges of building a steady and consistent audience when the broadcast day features multiple formats... We are committed to expanding news programming while also maintaining our dedication to preserving jazz as an American art form."
