KATHLEEN NIEW, the attorney who hosted a brokered financial show on SALEM Talk WIND-A (AM 560 THE ANSWER)/CHICAGO before being found liable for damages in a case brought by a couple claiming she misappropriated over $2 million of their money, has pleaded guilty to 10 federal fraud counts WEDNESDAY (6/26).
The CHICAGO TRIBUNE reports that NIEW entered the plea "blind," meaning without plea bargaining with prosecutors first.
NIEW allegedly took $2.3 million invested by JAMAL and LEDA KHOURY into an escrow account for real estate purposes and instead, without authorization, put it into mining operations that failed, losing the money. She lost her law and insurance licenses and her show was canceled in MARCH 2013.
Prior to this incident, NIEW had a record of disciplinary proceedings dating back to 1989, including a license suspension for allegedly forging client signatures in 2001 and state discipline for falsely stating her marital status in 1989. She also faces separate federal fraud charges in SOUTH CAROLINA.
