FCC Releases Ownership Tallies, Extends Comment Time For Quadrennial Ownership Review

The FCC has released the data from its biennial commercial ownership report, showing the following:
Commercial AM Radio ownership: Women owned 8.3% (310) in 2013, up from 7.8% (300) in 2011. 2.1% were jointly owned, and 73.2% were owned by males. The remainder, 16.3%, showed no majority interest by gender. Hispanic/Latino persons owned 5.2% of AMs in 2013 (194, up from 4.5% (172) in 2011); racial minorities owned 6% (225), down from 6.2% in 2011.
Commercial FM Radio ownership: Women owned 6.7% (383) in 2013, up from 5.8% (323) in 2011; Males owned 74%, 2.5% were jointly owned, and 16.8% showed no majority interest by gender. Hispanic/Latino persons owned 180 stations (3.2%) in 2013, up from 2.7% (151) in 2011; Racial minorities owned 169 FMs (3%, down from 3.5% (196) in 2011.
Upon a request by THE COALITION FOR SMALLER MARKET TELEVISION STATIONS, the FCC has also granted a 30-day extension of time for comments and reply comments for the 2014 Quadrennial Ownership Rules Review.
The extension sets the new comment deadline for AUGUST 6th and reply date as SEPTEMBER 8th.
