Musicians, songwriters, label execs and neighborhood activists were among the several hundred who gathered this MORNING (6/30) at NASHVILLE’s famous RCA STUDIO A located on MUSIC ROW, in an effort to support preservation of the legendary studio.
Built during the time icons OWEN BRADLEY and CHET ATKINS were defining the NASHVILLE sound, the studio has been home to the creative process for numerous music legends from Country music and other genres.
But TODAY’s rally went beyond saving STUDIO A.
The facility was sold to a BRENTWOOD, TN developer last week, prompting musician and longtime tenant of the studio, BEN FOLDS to pen a letter urging city officials to ensure that the building was not demolished, citing its historical relevance to MUSIC ROW.
Soon after, the buyers of the property said it will only be developed if STUDIO A is saved. With that, the movement went from #SavestudioA To #SaveMusicRow, with conversation about forming a MUSIC ROW neighborhood association that hopes to stem condominium development that potentially threatens longtime fixtures on and around MUSIC ROW.
As FOLDS said at the rally, “I started to think about it, 'Condos in MUSIC CITY, that's awesome. But music in Condo City' is not as attractive.”
