TOWNSQUARE MEDIA Rock KBOB (ROCK 104.9)/QUAD CITIES, IA flipped to Country at 12:00p (CT) TODAY (7/9), returning to the format after a seven-year absence and branding itself as “104.9 THE HAWK.”
After stunting with all-CHRISTMAS music this MORNING, “THE HAWK” took flight with a promise of 10,000 songs in a row.
TOWNSQUARE/QUAD CITIES Market Manager BRUCE LAW, quoted in TODAY’s (7/9) “QUAD CITIES TIMES” describes “THE HAWK” as “a young-focused, new music, new Country station targeted at a young female."
TODAY's flip pits "THE HAWK" against CLEAR CHANNEL crosstown Country powerhouse WLLR. In addition to its new format, "THE HAWK" makes a call-letter change, losing KBOB in favor of KQCS.
Former CLEAR CHANNEL Country WMAD/MADISON PD MIKE FERRIS (NET NEWS 4/30) has been overseeing the format flip after recently joining the cluster as OM. Top 40 KBEA (B100) air personality KEVIN WALKER shifts duties, assuming Brand Manager stripes for "THE HAWK," while FERRIS will oversee day-to-day programming for Classic Rock WXCD, B100 and Sports KJOC.
No word yet on plans for the station’s air staff, but FERRIS is accepting tapes and resumes here.
