FELIX CORP. Spanish Hits KOFH (MAXIMA 99.1)/NOGALES, AZ is under fire from the NOGALES City Council, which voted to ask the ARIZONA Attorney General to open a criminal investigation of the station over criticism by the station of Mayor ARTURO GARINO's administration.
NOGALES INTERNATIONAL reports that the Mayor moved at a JULY 9th council meeting to send "all the information" about the station to newspapers "so the general public can form their own opinions" and to send the information to the Attorney General and FCC "for criminal investigation." GARINO complained that the station may be retaliating because his administration has spent only $800 on the station compared to $27,000 by the previous administration. The motion passed 5-2.
Experts interviewed by the INTERNATIONAL noted that the action is unlikely to result in charges and conflicts with the station's freedom of speech.
