LIBERTY UNIVERSITY Contemporary Christian VICTORY RADIO NETWORK (VRN) has named BARRY ARMSTRONG as their new GM. ARMSTRONG replaces JERRY EDWARDS, who retired earlier this year after 30 years of service with LIBERTY UNIVERSITY.
VRN consists of the 50kw WRVL in LYNCHBURG, as well as seven full-power stations and 22 translators across much of VIRGINIA and NORTH CAROLINA.
LIBERTY UNIVERSITY Pres./JERRY FALWELL said, "BARRY ARMSTRONG comes to us with an abundant knowledge of the broadcasting industry and with the passion to reach people through radio. We are excited to tap into his decades of career experience as he helps us continue to provide an encouraging service to our growing number of listeners."
ARMSTRONG added, "We never saw this coming. My wife and I knew we would continue to engage in ministry ... but to cast a vision for the future of the radio stations founded by a university with such a rich Christian heritage is both humbling and exciting. We are convinced this is in GOD’s plan."
BARRY and his wife, LINDA, previously began development of Contemporary Christian WRXT-WPAR (SPIRIT FM)/ROANOKE-LYNCHBURG in the SUMMER of 1992 and the station signed on in JULY 1994. In 2002, SPIRIT FM expanded coverage when it merged with the POSITIVE ALTERNATIVE RADIO (PAR) group of stations. BARRY & LINDA retired from SPIRIT FM in JULY 2013.
