VIACOM's split into two companies will be a simple half-share of each new company for every share of the "old" VIACOM, according to the preliminary prospectus filed by the company with the SEC on WEDNESDAY (10/5). Each shareholder will receive a half share of the new VIACOM (including the MTV NETWORKS cable operations and PARAMOUNT PICTURES) and a half-share of CBS CORP. (including INFINITY, the CBS TV network, UPN, PARAMOUNT TELEVISION, and PARAMOUNT theme parks). The "new" VIACOM will trade under the VIA and VIA.B symbols while CBS CORP. will trade under the CBS and CBS.A symbols, all on the NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE.
