A noted "activist investor" has purchased 1.2%- 2.83 million shares- of TRIBUNE CO. NELSON PELTZ, who is known for using stakes in companies to push for operational or structural changes, and his partners disclosed the purchase in an SEC filing; the TRIBUNE CO., owners of WGN-A/CHICAGO and several newspapers, TV stations, and the CHICAGO CUBS, has been embroiled in a battle with the CHANDLER family, shareholders in TRIBUNE and former owners of the LOS ANGELES TIMES (now a TRIBUNE property), who have called for a breakup of the company.
