WASATCH PUBLIC MEDIA noncommercial News-Talk KCPW-F/SALT LAKE CITY President and CEO ED SWEENEY has resigned from the station to save money for the embattled public radio station, reports the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. GM TYLER FORD and Interim Station Manager LAUREN COLUCCI will handle SWEENEY's duties.
SWEENEY told the paper, "It got to the point where we had really good staff, and I realized it doesn’t make any economic sense to have a president/CEO, so I stepped aside (at the JULY 12th board meeting).... It was time to pass the baton … the decision was mine."
The station recently met a $42,000 fundraising goal to pay programming costs to AMERICAN PUBLIC MEDIA and stay on the air, but a preliminary budget shows that the station is presently overdue on almost $490,000 in debts and owes $7,500 a month for interest on a $1.8 million loan, a $525,000 additional loan, and $50,000 owed to APM.
