ESPN and SIRIUSXM have made it official and announced that STEPHEN A. SMITH is moving his radio hosting duties from ESPN Sports WEPN-F (ESPN NEW YORK 987FM)/NEW YORK to SIRIUSXM's MAD DOG RADIO starting SEPTEMBER 2nd (NET NEWS 7/28). SMITH will host 1-3p (ET) for the satellite channel, leading into CHRIS "MAD DOG" RUSSO's show, and will continue to appear on ESPN radio and television platforms as a commentator and "FIRST TAKE" co-host.
SMITH, who recently weathered a controversy over his comments on the RAY RICE suspension, said, "Words can't express how excited I am to be going to SIRIUSXM. I've waited a long time for this. All I'm going to say is SEPTEMBER 2nd can't arrive soon enough. So buckle up! Because I'm coming."
ESPN SVP/Production, Business Divisions TRAUG KELLER added, “This is an exciting new business opportunity for ESPN AUDIO. By creating outstanding exclusive audio content for SIRIUSXM, in this case THE STEPHEN A. SMITH SHOW, we are maximizing our presence on a variety of platforms that expand our reach and options for sports fans.”
