TOWNSQUARE MEDIA’s GEORGE KING has been named VP/Programming, Network Formats for WESTWOOD ONE (WW1), effective MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15th.
"GEORGE’s experience in markets large and small, along with his position in the Country music world, makes him a perfect fit for this role at Westwood One,” commented KIRK STIRLAND, President of Network Programming. “He’s joining an all-star programming management team, and he will be working with a first-rate air staff, on our biggest format category."
KING will oversee the company's Country 24-hour formats, which air on nearly 700 stations nationwide, including Mainstream Country, Hot Country, Classic Country and Real Country 24-hour radio formats.
KING's current responsibilities at TOWNSQUARE include Mgr./Western Regional Operations, Country Brand Leader and OM for the company’s FORT COLLINS, CO cluster, which includes Country KUAD.
At WW1, he will succeed JOHN PAUL, who left the syndicator last month for a GM role and eventual part-ownership of WASHINGTON INTERSTATE BROADCASTING's three-station radio group (NET NEWS 7/15).
KING joined KUAD as OM in 2012 (NET NEWS 7/16/12) from CUMULUS/ALLENTOWN, PA where he handled cluster OM duties and doubled as PD for Country WCTO. His Country radio resume includes programming experience at WMZQ/WASHINGTON,DC, KCYY/SAN ANTONIO and crosstown KAJA, and KNIX/PHOENIX.
Congratulate KING here.
No word on KING's replacement in FORT COLLLINS or how his corporate duties will be absorbed.
