The UNIVERSITY STATION ALLIANCE, a non-profit group for college-licensed media, has issued its annual reports on the impact of the economy on college radio, and among its findings from a survey of 161 respondents is that the percentage of licensees considering a multi-station merger has doubled since 2013, from 5.4% to 10.7%.
More are also considering purchasing a station (4.1% in 2013, 6.9% in 2014). Fewer are considering selling (2.7% to 1.8%).
Asked whether they are considering an operational consolidation, the percentages of stations saying yes rose in the categories of financial services (3.5% to 8%), engineering/IT (6.4% to 7.3%), and human resources (2.8% to 5.3%) but fell overall (75.5% to 70.4%).
