CLEAR CHANNEL has launched a new Classic Rock format on an HD3-analog translator combo in BIRMINGHAM with the debut of CLASSIC ROCK 94.9, airing on the HD3 channel of Top 40 WQEN (103.7 THE Q) and on FM translator W235BS.
VP/GM RAY QUINN said, “Today is a historic day for BIRMINGHAM radio as we bring true Classic Rock music back to the MAGIC CITY! For over two years, there’s been a huge absence of the format since the legendary ROCK 99 went away. ROCK 99 had an iconic following of fans and advertisers so we’ve brought it back on a new frequency at 94.9FM.
PD JASON MACK added, “Basically, we put the band back together! We’re bringing back JOHN BOY AND BILLY in the morning from 5-9a, longtime Midday Rock Queen LORI RAY is back for middays and I’m doing afternoons.
“It’s so good to hear the Classics back on the air again ... from AC/DC, ZEPPELIN, PINK FLOYD, BOSTON and more! We can’t wait to re-introduce ourselves to the loyal Rock fans and we’ve planned a huge party tonight at the MOTLEY CRUE concert at OAK MOUNTAIN! It was awesome NIKKI, TOMMY and the guys agreed to play a Homecoming Concert for us."
