It's a very special Happy Birthday for former Top 40 WVAQ/MORGANTOWN, WV Dir./Programming LACY NEFF, who THE BOSTON HERALD reports, "arrived at MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL nine months ago with a heart resembling shattered glass, a trail of baffled doctors behind him and, by some estimates, a matter of weeks to live."
“There were times when they said, ‘You might make it two weeks,’ and then there were times they said, ‘You might make it to a year,’” said NEFF. “They just didn’t know.”
NEFF was told he had amyloidosis, which is a rare disease that creates a buildup of proteins which interfere with the function of vital organs. He and his wife, DANA, relocated to BOSTON so deal with the disease.
THE HERALD notes, "Dr. BIMALANGSHU DEY in MGH’s hematology and oncology department told the transplant panel he thought NEFF could beat the cancer if given the chance." “I told the team that I thought his chance of living beyond five years was at least 70%, and they liked those numbers” DEY told the paper.
NEFF waited four months waiting for a heart before getting a transplant on APRIL 28th, which he now refers to as his “second birthday.”
